Duke Ellington’s signature song, “Take the A Train” was written by Billy Strayhorn. It was quite difficult for me to assign a form to this piece and identify various sections, because one of the main elements of Jazz is improvisation. Originally written by "Billy Strayhorn" and made famous by "Duke Ellington" and his band, I cover "Take the A Train" on my new PRS McCarty :) First time through the song I play the melody, second time I solo over the changes, third I demonstrate comping in a swing setting, and lastly I try at another solo.
